Cameron County has some of the most beautiful
churches in the area. If you have not gazed at the architecture
and stained glass windows you are missing out! Our country
churches hold a special treat, some have not changed much in over 100
years! Many of our one and two room schools from a bygone era are still standing. Most are used as camps. In 1880 there were over 40 schools in Cameron County. In addition to Ridge Road which connects to Route 120 near the Emporium Country Club, there are more than 100 miles of back roads in Cameron County! Most are in good shape and follow streams. All offer excellent photo opportunities! Chances are you will see deer, bear and elk! August 4-9 Cameron County Fair takes center stage! This year a survivor contest will highlight the event in addition to a tractor parade!
Each July Emporium plays host to the Senior Little League State Baseball Tournament. Teams from across Pennsylvania vie for the state crown and the right to move onto regional play in New Jersey where they will face off against teams from the entire east coast of the United States. This year the games start Thursday July 24 and conclude with the championship game on Monday July 28. For a memorable family day out, pack a picnic
lunch and head for Sterling Run. The Lumber Township playground
behind the Little Museum has a nice pavilion with picnic tables, a
playground, creek access and round out your day with a visit to the
Museum. The Little Museum is open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday
afternoons. Best of all it is free! August 15-17 Cameron County will host Weekend in the Wilds. The fun begins Friday night with a wing tasting contest. Travel from restaurant to restaurant and vote for your favorite wings! Saturday the David Hutton Walk Run takes off from the Cameron County High School, and downtown in Emporium it is a car, truck, bike show, a bike blessing, battle of the barrel contest, art demonstrations, touch a truck, face painting and lots of food from the local restaurants. Saturday night it winds down at the Emporium Country Club with an Elvis Impersonator!
